Dear Mr. James:

Because I am your representative in Congress, Congressman Walden forwarded me your letter regarding the threat of chemtrails. I appreciate hearing your thoughts about this issue.

As you may already know, a contrail is the condensation trail that is left behind by a passing jet plane. Contrails form when hot humid air from jet exhaust mixes with environmental air of low vapor pressure and low temperature. The mixing occurs directly behind the plane due to the turbulence generated by the engine. If condensation (conversion from a gas to a liquid) occurs, then a contrail becomes visible. The length of time that a contrail lasts is directly proportional to the amount of humidity that is already in the atmosphere.

I appreciate hearing your views that contrail are actually chemtrails that cause adverse health problems and contaminate the air, and I understand that this issue is very important to you. However, I have not yet seen significant scientific evidence to verify this theory. Please know, however, that your concerns are very important to me, and I will keep them in mind should this issue come before Congress for a vote.
